When the snow arrives, Labergement-Sainte-Marie becomes an ideal base for winter sports in the Jura Mountains: the Métabief ski resort is 10 minutes away, cross-country and snowshoe trails about fifteen. Back home, it's time for fondue or raclette (machines provided), facing the snowy view from the balcony.
Downhill skiing in Métabief
The Métabief resort and the slopes of Mont d'Or are 8 km away, about ten minutes by car: ideal for skiing all day and coming back to peace and quiet in the evening.
Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing
In winter, the massif can be explored on cross-country skis or snowshoes on the Nordic trails of Métabief and Mont d'Or. See also our hiking routes, including the Grande Traversée du Jura on snowshoes.
Dog sledding
A must-do winter activity: a first sled ride or an introduction to mushing, on a typical Haut-Doubs forest trail.
Mont d'Or and the cheeses of the Haut-Doubs
Winter is the season of Mont d'Or AOP cheese, to discover at the Fromagerie du Mont d'Or in Métabief. In the village, the Fruitière des Lacs makes Comté and Morbier every morning, 1 km from the apartment.
On the road
France's mountain law applies in the Haut-Doubs: from 1 November to 31 March, you need at least all-season or winter tyres, or snow chains in the boot. Free parking spaces are available right outside the building.
Warm indoors
For a day off the slopes: the Les Rives Sauvages spa in Malbuisson with its lake view, the Comté ripening cellars at Fort Saint-Antoine or the Château de Joux. The source of the Doubs in Mouthe is magnificent when everything is frosted.
